Spring is almost Here! Watch Out for Changing Sunlight in Your Ecosystem:
As spring arrives, the days get longer, and the sun climbs higher in the sky. If your eccosmo ecosystem has never been through a spring or summer in its current location, now is the time to check if it’s still in the right spot.
Why Sunlight Exposure Changes in Spring

The position of the sun shifts throughout the year, meaning a location that received no direct sunlight in winter may now be getting some exposure. Even a short period of direct sunlight can disrupt the delicate balance inside your ecosystem.
Algae Growth: The first sign of excess light is increased algae. While some algae are normal, if the glass turns green quickly or the water becomes cloudy, your ecosystem is likely getting too much light.
Temperature Changes: More sunlight can also lead to higher internal temperatures, which may stress the shrimp and upset the stability of your mini-world.
How to Protect Your Ecosystem This Spring
✔ Check for New Sun Exposure: Watch how the light moves in your space throughout the day. Even if your ecosystem was safe in winter, it may now be in a sunbeam for part of the day.
✔ Keep It in Low, Indirect Light: The best placement for an eccosmo ecosystem is in a shaded or softly lit area. Avoid bright, direct sunlight or strong reflections from nearby windows.
✔ Move It If Needed: If you notice increased algae growth or rising water temperature, relocate your ecosystem to a spot with even less light exposure. A shelf, a shaded corner, or a room with diffused natural light is ideal.
✔ Let Algae Be Your Guide: A little algae is normal, but if it grows quickly, it's a sign that your ecosystem is getting too much light. Adjust placement accordingly.
✔ Reassess as Summer Approaches: Sunlight conditions will keep changing, so check in on your ecosystem’s placement every few months to ensure it stays in a stable, low-light environment.
By paying attention to seasonal shifts in light, you can keep your eccosmo ecosystem healthy and thriving! Have you noticed any changes in your ecosystem this spring? Share your experience in the comments!
